Advertising Exposed: What is being done behind the curtain

Over-exposed Advertising and Orange Bananas?

When it comes to advertising, one of the best methods of doing a good job is to make sure that you engage the people that you have targeted. The way that you can do that is by creating curiosity. If you don’t create curiosity, people are not going to assume that they don’t understand something and want to know the answer.

Advertising: Creating Curiosity

Have you ever read the end of a book to find out what happens before you continue on?

Have you ever had the opportunity to take a test and then review the key?

Do you know what I mean? I’m talking about a test that you can take on your own.

Advertising should be a little bit like this test. You should create some questions that engages the person that is reading the information or observing the information that you put in the ad and generate a question in their head. Naturally they’re going to want to get the answer to this question, and this is where you can work your magic.

If you create a question that evokes enough curiosity, then you can deliver pretty much any message that you want. The concept is sort of like create curiosity answer or give an answer that creates curiosity and then finish it with the question.

An example of this might be The Answer: black raspberry dolphins in NYC. This might be a giant slogan that creates Curiosity. It makes the reader ago, Huh?

Then, they look a little closer to find what the answer represented to what the question was. The question could be as simple as for everything else there’s MasterCard.

These are the types of things that really draw people in. It makes their brain short circuit and ask the question and realize that it comes up with no answer. It wants to know if the answer that it thinks might be right even, could be right.

Any way that you can do this as an advertiser or marketer will engage your potential audience on a high-level.

Believe it or not, this is being done to you every single day.

If you want some real life examples of how this all works, just watch the next set of commercials during the next Super Bowl.

Sticky, Catchy Phrases in Advertising:

The people behind these ads invest tons of money in making sure that what they display will create curiosity and pool the viewer in. Once the viewer is engaged and pulled in, they will deliver a Pitch for their brand usually are accompanied by a slogan that involves an alliteration or some type of play on words that makes it sticky.

Alliteration is when you use words that begin with the same consonant or sound.

An example of this might be something like Miller’s million, M&Ms and Grey Goose.

A lot more can be said about this topic. There is a lot that goes into the research of the personas and demographics of the people they are marketing to.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to advertising is… Leave nothing to chance. Because no good advertiser leaves anything to chance.

Huge Shout Out: Just a way to say thanks

Give Credit Where it’s due.

First let me start by saying that I want to give a huge shout out (look up the meaning if you need to ;-)) to Paul Clukey at www.OnlineMarketingGorilla.com

Without his help I would not have been able to put together this blog. He came right along side of me and showed me exactly what to do.

Seriously (heart full of thanks) he showed me everything that I needed to know in order to set up my blog. He helped me get the categories set up. He made sure that I knew to make myself a set of pages that would cover things like disclaimers, about me and create a way that people could get a hold of me if they need to reach out.

He made it super simple and suggested that he usually uses this format when he is trying to create a site. I do have to admit that it was a little tricky getting the Domain name server setup. It just sounded like a really big word and it made me a little confused. I felt a little overwhelmed with the idea of trying to understand what the difference was between a registrar and the hosting company.

But he made it super simple. He told me he was basically like I bought an RV over at the store. The RV can be moved to any place to park it at I want. However… It is understood that most places are going to charge you something to have it there. Some RV sales centers even have a place to park your RV out back on their “hosting” parking lot where you can stay for as long as you want. It is the same with a registrar and a hosting company. Registrars can be the hosting company itself, but it doesn’t have to be. You can move your domain name to any hosting place you want. That is your right because you own the name.

Once he explained this to me it made sense. So, all I needed to do was buy the domain name. Then, look for a place to host it. I think I have it hosted on name cheap .com.

I had never heard of that before but he told me it was pretty reliable. He said he never had any problems with it and he heard about it from a guy that taught him a bunch of ninja tricks in online marketing.

So anyways, that’s it. If you need any help setting up your stuff, I highly recommend him. He’s super friendly and easy to work with.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. If you were looking for a way to easily write your blog I highly recommend that you consider using some kind of dictation system. It is really easy to dictate all the text that you need and then edit it. This makes everything go a lot faster. Today’s voice recognition is out of this world. Now really anyone can have their own blog. If I can do it so can you. :-)

Controlling Your Emotions in Business

Feeling Five and Overwhelmed!

Feeling kind of emotional today. It is so weird. I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed at work. It’s one of those days when I feel like the five-year-old self is in charge.

My head is filled with worry and trepidation. I am concerned about all kinds of things like not being strong enough to continue on in developing my company.

I feel like I am a marathon runner and I’ve already run three marathons in the last three days.

It is so interesting to watch myself, or put another way, be aware of myself in this place. I recognize that I am really not defeated and there is nothing much that has changed since yesterday. But, I can’t help this feeling of being overwhelmed.

The reason I am writing this is because I feel like if I write it all down I will jump over these emotions and move back to being back in control of my life.

In other words the five-year-old will sit back down and let me take back over. I recently heard a motivational speech that talked about the ones that truly persevere in the face of defeat and failure.

Basically the motivational speech mentioned that it is easy to be motivated and going somewhere when everything is going your way. It is much harder to muster the strength to move when things are a little less certain.

It is so funny that I am so keenly unaware of the fact that my company and business is growing. Today just feels overwhelming.

Now, don’t get me wrong… I don’t feel depressed. I just feel like I have too much work and not enough of me to go around.

I know I am strong and powerful, but that is not the way I’m living right this minute.

I can’t help but sit here and think about what has to change in order to get my wits about me again.

Maybe I just need to listen to some good music or do something that’s fun for me. That way I stop all of this ruminating about what’s not getting done. I feel a little trapped because I can’t get to the place where I can work right now.

So, I thought if I talk my way through it here on paper maybe it would help. I am waiting for the shift to occur. Do you know what shift I’m talking about?

It’s the shift when all of a sudden you know you are solid. You know that you can move things. You know that you could change things. You know that you are a force to be reckoned with in the world.

That is the place where personal power reminds you that you have what it takes to do anything that you set your mind to.

I am not sure if I lost you yet. I hope you’re holding on right here with me. I know in this blog post I’m just kind of rambling on. However, my point is simply that when we find ourselves in a place of feeling defeated. What should we do? What is the fastest way out of it? How do we jump back onto our feet and keep moving forward?

I have heard that the fastest way out of fear is to take massive action. So, I thought I would take massive action by writing this post. I hope you identify with it and that it encourages you to stop reading this post and take massive action in the direction that you want to change.

I feel it lifting for me now. I feel like I am recognizing my personal power. That might sound a little hokey, but you’re not in my skin right now so you don’t know how I’m feeling. wink…

I really realize that I have a choice to where I want to stand and what I want to believe. Right now I choose to believe in the possibility that things are going to stabilize and get better towards progress and success.

The Root of All Happiness

How to get happy.

Do you ever stop for a moment to think about what you’re actually thinking about?

I recently came across some information that blew my mind. It was a speaker who became a Buddhist monk. He said that he wasn’t happy with the status quo and decided that he wanted to get centered. So he did what so many of us have thought about. He basically packed for the Himalayas and learned how to be a monk spending tons of time meditating every day.

What he learned was that the first step is actually noticing your thoughts.

A well-known hypnotist Paul McKenna uses this methodology and helps his patients understand where their minds are.

paul mckenna

He sets the  stage sometimes by saying close your eyes and think of nothing and then think of a stage in front of you… on that stage, it is all dark. Now imagine that the curtains pulled back what do you see?  Somehow he believes that this is our mind’s way or our subconscious’ way of communicating with our thoughts or the “lucid” us.

He also explains that most people, according to scientists, spend 48% of their time thinking about something other than their present moment.

He explained that it is amazing to think that all of us spend almost half of our time/lives not being present in the moment to what we are doing.

So, one of the ways to get present and consequently also to meditate is to begin to think about what is happening right now.

Stop for a moment and ask these questions. What am I thinking about? Observe as thoughts come in and flow out of your mind. Think about what you are thinking about and simply notice what you’re noticing.

What does your body currently feel like? Are you fatigued or do you feel strong?
What are your emotions?

Do you feel afraid? Are you sad? Do you feel happy? The key is simply to notice what is going on with you right now as if you were standing outside of your body looking down on yourself and observing what is going on.

If you imagine for a moment that the thoughts that are occurring in your mind are simply just thoughts and you don’t have to pay any attention to them, Then, you can become aware of your presence. If you simply observe the emotions without letting them over take you, then once again you’ll be present to your emotions.

The more you do this and the more you practice it the more you will understand what it takes to be present with yourself and with people around you.

The key to meditating is allowing all of those thoughts to simmer down. You start out by noticing all of the thoughts; then, it’s sort of like the thoughts notice you noticing them. You then become mindful of the fact that you can’t seem to quite shut off your brain to all of the thoughts. This is the crossroads point where your mind begins to slow down.

So proper meditating is not just an emotional experience nor is it strictly a cognitive experience. It is an experience that should transcend all of those things.

Now it is time for me to simply notice what I am thinking about and what I am doing.

How’s it going?

Hi Thanks for checking in on my page. I am not quite done with it. I hope that you will check back soon to see what I am up to.

Just want to welcome you and tell you thanks for showing up here.

-Talk to you later,
